Interview with Axwell (ENG)

Hi, first of all we would like to congratulate the many recent awards and how the project Swedish House Mafia, of course, as well as individual accomplishments, particularly for 1st place in the Beatport Awards in the category House Producer, do for you this award means and how you feel it?

thanks! It’s always great to be recognised for doing what I love, making music particularly when that award is voted for by the fans.

In June this year, you released a successful album Axtone Volume 1, but we knows that you are going next album, which should include tracks as Center Of The Universe, Nothing But Love, Heart .... Can we expect its release this year?

Axwell

Ha! The the million dollar question! Well, I’m still working on the album as it goes and the tracks you’ve mentioned are all certain to feature but I have a few more tracks & suprises up my sleeve which will also be on there. Hopefully you will have the album in your hands by this time next year! hahahaha

Anyway will you play Center of the Universe even a birthday set at Machovo lake? Ideally would suit the atmosphere of the festival, which is located on the beautiful beach Máchova Lakes ...

I think there’s a pretty good chance! It’s been working really well in my sets so far this year and it’s crazy to see how much love there is for that record already!

Axwell - Nothing But Love

How to make star of your size organize your schedule? It must be very difficult to combine it all together (work in the studio, Swedish House Mafia, family) ...

Syncing! I have everything and everyone synced up on my iphone so I know at any time what I should be doing and where I should be doing it!

What's for you chief, or rather think today is more a music producer or DJ? A process that you enjoy more? Work in the studio or mixing near the fierce crowd?

For me I couldn’t have one without the other. Everytime I dj I get more inspiration from the crowds & from other DJs so next time I’m in the studio I want to make my tracks sound phatter and bigger to get the crowd even more hyped when I play them!

This question is somewhat related to the previous one. Before the show you selected song forward, or rather play by the mood and reactions of the audience?

I have a few anthems and special exclusives that I know I will be playing at some time throughout my sets. I’ve never been a DJ who would plan out my whole set before I’ve started as I really enjoy the spontaneous element as much as anything else when I’m playing

Let us return back to those still music prices. Ongoing vote DJ MAG TOP 100 where you finished last year at the 14th place, nobody doubts that this year you´ll go up. What are your ambitions in this poll?

I just hope when people come to see me play or hear my music that they love it as much as I do as it put my heart & soul into everything I do. If they decide they want to vote for me then I consider that a great honour and I fucking love them for it!

And what do you think about the voting system in which many DJs have their fans asking for votes?

It’s a huge business now so I can totally understand people canvassing for votes

Thanks to your great show, you can play in many places and clubs of the world. In which club or in the place where you are playing at all like the most?

I’m very lucky in that aspect for sure. Everywhere has a different reason to love playing there. I’m loving playing Monday’s at Pacha with the other guys from the Swedish House Mafia, last year was massive this year the craziness has been off the scale!

Describe your immediate reaction when you realized that you're a fan of us (DJ Dave Novacek) who have tattooed the your logo on his arm? Perhaps someday you will not change his design?

I was amazed! As soon as I saw it I tweeted Dave straight away, that shit is crazy! No plans for changing the design anytime soon but Dave has another arm so plenty of space to add any new logos I come up with! hahaha

With Steve and Sebastian you are preparing the first album by the Swedish House Mafia , which will be called Until One. It will rather be the latest production of SHM, or is everything still a secret?

No secret in this instance – we are releasing a compilation along with a DVD, a kind of recent history of the Swedish House Mafia, it’s been a lot of fun so far and hopefully that will come across in the film

It is certain that you receive numerous offers for remixes, and under what you choose those on which the later work?

My only criteria and has been the same since I started is do I love the original and do I feel I can add something?
A lot of my remixes both new and old remain the biggest tracks in my set – my remix with Dragan (Dirty South) of Temper Trap ‘Sweet Dispositions’ 12 months on seems to get bigger and bigger with every play!

What kind of music you listen to in your free time and name your favorite song?

I’ve been listening to the XX album a lot recently, I really like them.  I’ve actually done a special edit for my dj sets of Crystalised together with my remix of ‘Hard To Beat’ by Hard-Fi which is one of the biggest records in my sets at the moment.

Last question: What about your 2010 vacation, where are you going?

I don’t have time for a Vacation, ask me in 2020! hahaha

Much thanks you for your time and, on Friday 20/8 we and with us the filled beach look forward to you! Do you have any special message for visitors to the festival Machac 2010?

Looking forward to partying hard with my friends in the Czech Republic once again, it’s going to be a great gig!
